Who doesn't love teppanyaki? Trick question, I'm pretty sure everyone does- and how could you not? The chefs cook right in front of you and do some awesome tricks like the shrimp in the pocket, the onion volcano, and the fried rice heart, plus the food is always amazing. It's one of the best dining experiences around!
You won't find any bad teppanyaki places around, but you will find some truly exceptional teppanyaki places that stand out above the rest. Sakura Chaya in Fresno is one of those. They offer more than just teppanyaki though, including traditional dine-in and even sushi (another all time favorite).
The menu is full of some truly signature sushi rolls, like their "Godzilla Roll" (halibut, scallops and crab wrapped with shiso and seaweed then baked with spicy sauce) and the Island Roll (tempura calamari, cucumber and topped with spicy crab, wasabi, tobiko and teriyaki glaze). That's just a glimpse, the sushi they prepare is top-notch and full of creativity.
They have traditional Japanese dining options as well like tempura, bento boxes, and teriyaki.
Of course, one of their most popular and classic menu options is teppanyaki. You can sit and enjoy some amazing fried rice, vegetables, and meats while the chefs put on a show for you.
It's a truly unique and quality experience!
The first Sakura Chaya was opened in 2008, and quickly became a local favorite. It already had a social following from its sister restaurants Edo Ya in Fresno and Japanese Kitchen in Clovis. Sakura has developed its own reputation though as being one of the go-to favorite restaurants for most people in the Fresno area.
It's been so popular in fact, that in the summer of 2019 they opened another Sakura Chaya in Clovis, located in the Sierra Vista mall.
The reputation Sakura built for a quality dine in experience for sushi and teppanyaki has earned it a very loyal following amongst Fresnans. That's why despite the quarantines and lockdowns, Sakura has continued to thrive through its take out options.
One of the best things Sakura brings to the table (pun intended), is its hospitality. You'll not only get amazing food, but you'll be greeted happily and served well. They make it known that you are valued and appreciated as a customer. Hardly a mystery why Sakura has become so popular!
Currently due to the new policies, Sakura Chara is only offering to-go orders. Besides Ramen and miso soup, the full menu is still available to order. The typical wait time is between 20 and 30 minutes, and both Sakura Chaya locations are open from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 4:30 to 8 p.m. for dinner.
You may call or come in to the restaurant to order. They've taped off sections for social distancing to comply with the health orders from the authorities and keep everyone safe and healthy.
They are currently running promotion for free hot and spicy sauce as well as a free fried rice with every meal purchased!! How great of a deal is that?
